IELTS Task 1 Multiple Graphs Band 9 Sample Report

The pie chart delineates a statistical comparison of women living in poverty in the USA, categorized by their marital status. Meanwhile, the bar graph provides a detailed breakdown of poverty rates based on gender and age demographics for the year 2008.

In general, single women without dependent children had the highest incidence of poverty. When taking into account age and gender, poverty rates were greatest among children and decreased gradually with age. However, the poverty rate for women remained persistently higher than that of men.

The pie chart reveals that single women without dependent children experienced the highest poverty rates. This group constituted 54% of the total impoverished population, while single women with dependent children made up just over a quarter of those in poverty. The remaining fifth (20%) of the impoverished population was composed of married women with and without children.

Turning to the bar chart, the highest rates of poverty were observed among children, and the rates were similar for males and females, at around 21% for those under 5 years old and 15% for those aged 5 to 17. However, between ages 18 and 24, the gap between men and women widened significantly, with poverty rates for women exceeding those for men at over 20% compared to approximately 14% for men, and this gap increased steadily over the years to result in a twofold difference between genders, with women experiencing poverty at a rate of approximately 13% compared to the nearly 5% for men.

IELTS Task 1 Multiple Graphs Band 8 Sample Report

The pie chart compares the statistics of impoverished women regarding their marital status in the USA, while the bar breaks down poverty rates by both gender and age demographics in 2008.

Overall, according to the data on the former chart, more than half of the poor females were single women without dependent infants; married women with no dependent children shared the least percentage among all. Turning to the age distribution, what strikingly stands out is that the more people grew older, the more financially stable they became. Interestingly, women appear to dominate their male counterparts with their higher proportions.

In the United States, single women with grown-up children accounted for 54%, which was roughly twice as high as those with dependent children (26%). By contrast, married women who were in need comprise the lowest percentages: those with younger children and independent ones, constituting 12 % and 8%, respectively.

Due to age and sex classification, both genders under 5 years old had almost the equal amount of money shortage, around one-fifth (20%). It seems that only young individuals at 18-24 indicated more poverty which was then followed by a consistent decline by the age of 45-54. The rate of poor female and male ones made up between 5-10 %. Although the figure for men was subject to fall, that of women represented a polar opposite over time, resulting in a two-fold distinction: nearly 5 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
