IELTS Task 2 Band 9 Sample Essay
Nowadays, the internet is becoming a convenient tool to transfer information, and there are more and more students who are dependent on this platform. Even though the internet might have some benefits like easy access to information and a range of research materials, they come at the cost of associated harmful negative effects. Specially, when it comes to educational purposes, the internet use has to be restricted and monitored because inaccurate and nonverified information that is available online may seriously mislead a student.
Students can benefit from the internet by using it correctly with the advancement of technology. The internet has become an indispensable tool for the majority of students because it can be used to access research and information about almost any topic. For instance, students can quickly find up-to-date information from the internet to accomplish their assignment, instead of wasting time using traditional methods such as reading newspapers or reference books. Therefore, using the internet can let students finish assignments faster than using conventional ways.
However, there are a considerable number of websites which include unreliable and inaccurate information that might mislead students. For example, people with insufficient medical training may answer a medical question asked by a sick person on Reddit. Also, perhaps even more worrying is the possibility that the students who encounter false information online may actively spread it further, by sharing or otherwise engaging with it on the social media network. Another concern is that as students are mostly young and usually have lack of control over their mind, during browsing the internet for education resources, they can be easily distracted by the available inappropriate contents such as violence, sex etc. which are the factors to increase the risk of developing both physical and behavioural problems. Thus, the unconditional acceptance of internet for educational purpose might cause a negative outcome.
In conclusion, regardless of the internet’s dynamic advantages in terms of available study materials and other virtual assistances, ubiquitous access to this and its non-verified question-answer platforms are causing young students to come across various misinformation and unwelcomed contents that can easily attract and lead them towards a far-reaching consequence. Therefore, the internet use in educational purpose must be monitored and restricted.
