IELTS Task 2 Band 9 Essay Sample

It is argued that avoidance of social media channels always leads to regression in career pathway. I personally feel that this statement lacks in accuracy. This essay will discuss how effective time management and acquiring topical experiences will help people to excel in their career rather than networking in social media, followed by a reasoned conclusion.

Firstly, People who plan their time effectively are less likely to fall in the trap of careless time wastage in social media because surfing in different linking websites distracts them from the real causes. According to studies, it can take our brain between 15-25 minutes to refocus on work after being distracted. So not only do people waste time while using social media, but they also require time and energy to realign themselves with previous task to complete it appropriately. That means, the time spent on social media is not a break, rather it can cause mental depletion and lead us to feel tired much more quickly. So, if we’re focused on work or searching for more prospects, it would be advisable to take a physical break completely away from our phone rather than going on social media as a distraction or respite, because browsing through this network can easily be mistaken for relaxing. Thus, people not using social media are not getting out of line in terms of career progression, rather they can spend time more efficiently.

In addition, in this competitive job market employers often value specific skillsets that are required for that particular section. This can be seen in any advertisements in the NHS jobs in the UK where only doctors with specialist in gynaecology can only apply to the maternal health sector otherwise not. So, it indicates that using social media doesn’t add any value to flourish in their field whereas improving competency through supervised training is crucial.

To sum up, being away from social media network usually accelerates career progression by allowing people to utilize time in much needed areas such as training for gaining precise experiences.
