IELTS Task 2 Band 9 Sample Essay
Despite substantial expansion in international commerce, various studies indicate that less affluent nations have failed to capitalize on the opportunities presented by globalization. I completely agree with this statement, and I strongly believe that disparities in the opportunities and resources are the main reasons behind this situation. I will delve into the issue throughout the essay.
To begin with, it is well established that globalization has created an interconnected global economy, where goods, services, and information are exchanged on a massive scale. However, despite this growth, many poor nations remain mired in poverty and economic hardship. The root cause of this disparity lies in the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities. The developed nations of the world have a distinct advantage, with access to capital, technology, and education, which enables them to better participate in the global economy. On the other hand, the developing nations often lack these basic resources, and as a result, are unable to compete and reap the benefits of globalization.
Furthermore, globalization has also led to an increase in income inequality between rich and poor nations. The rich nations are able to extract more value from the global economy, while the poor nations are left behind. For instance, multinational corporations often exploit the low labour costs in developing nations, resulting in a net outflow of wealth from these countries. This exacerbates the poverty and economic hardship faced by the citizens of these nations.
In conclusion, instead of revolutionary advancement of global trade, poor nations are failing to harness the advantages because of unequal distribution opportunities and the ever-widening income disparity between rich and poor countries.
