IELTS Task 2 Band 9 Sample Essay

Nowadays, an increasing number of travellers are visiting the dreadful areas like the Sahara Desert or the Antarctic regions. Though the large groups of penguins and sun shined vast open sandy lands attract the adventure loving tourists in these places, they are not free from some medical and commuter convenience issues.

Brush-tailed penguins wadding across the ice in Antarctica and dunes with a celestial glow in the deserts are the key factors that attract people to visit these unlike places. Whale watching on an epic scale is one of the most rewarding experiences of travelling Antarctica which people find too difficult to ignore. Also, as penguins are usually quite comfortable in human presence, tourists can avail indelible memories watching them diving off icebergs, swimming and playing around. When it comes to a desert, the Sahara is the best example of this kind, few places on Earth can match its splendour. The stars reflecting on the desert rocks create an incredibly coloured atmosphere that is simply parallel to none. Its dunes are so soft that sandboarders around the world are mad to be here.

However, traveling to such areas is not free from danger and inconvenience. Extreme cold weather and heavy fog in Antarctica can cause serious health issues with the bare body parts like hands, face and feet. Frostnip is the most common disease that can develop into spots and can create a strong burning sensation. If they are not treated in time, the spots grow into black areas, and convert into septicaemia (blood-poisoning). Meanwhile, inconvenience can be another downside as travellers can find it hard to access any of the public transportation such as railways, buses, or taxis alike in the vast open sandy land. Tourists in adverse conditions always need to be well-prepared that they can only reach to any destination mainly by walking, which may bring lots of physical challenges and mental fatigue.

In conclusion, deserts with soft, sandy, vast land under the open sky, and icy regions with rare snow animals like penguins present some incredible tourist attractions. However, these regions pose some health and safety concerns as they are unlike other places on Earth.
