The table illustrates the percentage of consumer expenditure on three categories of goods in five countries (Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey) in 2002.


Overall, spending was highest on food, beverage and tobacco across all five countries, whereas leisure and education consistently saw the lowest allocation. Clothing and footwear fell in between, with moderate spending across the nations.


Turning to the breakdown of food, beverage and tobacco, Turkey had the largest expenditure at 32.14%, nearly double that of Sweden at 15.77%. Ireland followed closely behind Turkey with 28.91%, while Spain and Italy allocated 18.80% and 16.36%, respectively. Notably, Turkey also topped the spending for leisure and education, with 4.35%, while Spain allocated the smallest amount at just 1.98%.
