Some would argue that the use of mobile phones to communicate should not be allowed in places where public gather, while others say that individuals should be able to talk over phone anywhere, they feel convenient. Although using phones amid public gatherings might reveal sensitive private information and expose the user to various dangers, I believe it should be allowed because the banning might come at the cost of some incredibly important calls.
When we talk over phone, we divert our maximum attention to the person who we talk to the other end, as a result, we could expose our confidential information that might make us vulnerable to various risks. In other words, during a conversation over mobile phone, we might be exchanging some very sensitive news which would definitely harm us if revealed to public. That means, some bad people might be present nearby and exploit them for the bad causes. Moreover, during a private conversation over phone, we tend to fall oblivious, which could give an advantage to the muggers or other criminals hovering around. For instance, according to The International Crime Watchdog, more than 80 percent petty crimes take place every year because of people’s absence of mind in public places. It reveals the extent of hazard that occurs due to the use of mobile phones in public places.
On the other hand, people should have the freedom to speak with their loved ones and others from any location they are present, because the emergency can arise at any time. Families are more concerned about their members when they are out, and as a result, they tend to call and enquire about their wellbeing. Therefore, people should be allowed to use their phones anywhere, regardless of public or private places. For instance, according to a survey conducted by the Guardian, 60% of the calls attended by individuals in common places are important calls that are too costly to ignore. Therefore, citizens should not be deprived of the right to attend phone calls in general places.
To conclude, while answering phone calls in common places can be a disturbance to others, I believe that communication is a necessity and therefore should never be banned.
