The table delineates the distribution of monthly household income towards food and drink, housing, clothing, and entertainment across five European nations.


Predominantly, the largest shares of income in these countries are funnelled into housing and food and drink, with clothing seeing the least financial dedication. The United Kingdom stands out, allocating a robust 64% of income to housing and nourishment combined, the highest amongst its peers. Conversely, Türkiye and Spain channel the most substantial portions of their budgets towards food and drink expenditures.


Exploring further, housing commands the greatest expenditure in France, Germany, and the UK, consuming 31%, 33%, and 37% of household incomes respectively. Turkey diverges with a pronounced emphasis on food and drink, dedicating 36% of its income here, the pinnacle in this category among the analysed countries. Spain mirrors this pattern albeit at a slightly lesser percentage of 31%.


On the lower end of spending, clothing and entertainment generally absorb about a fifth of household budgets in these nations. Notably, expenditures on clothing are particularly modest in France and Spain, which allocate only 7% and 8% respectively. Germany shows a marginally higher preference for clothing at 15%, marking a clear distinction from its counterparts.

The chart presents the proportions of monthly household income allocated to four distinct categories—food and drink, housing, clothing, and entertainment—across five European countries.


In general, housing and food and drink emerge as the predominant expenses across the board, while expenditure on clothing is consistently minimal. Notably, the UK dedicates a significant combined total of 64% of household income to housing and food and drink, the highest among the observed nations. In contrast, both Türkiye and Spain allocate their largest expenditures towards food and drink.


Detailing the expenditures further, France, Germany, and the UK exhibit the highest allocation towards housing at 31%, 33%, and 37% respectively. Türkiye, on the other hand, prioritizes food and drink with a substantial 36% of income spent in this category, which is the highest among the listed countries. Meanwhile, Spain's spending on food and drink is also notable at 31%.


Conversely, all five countries allocate a relatively modest portion of their income to clothing and entertainment, with combined expenses generally not exceeding 20%. Clothing expenses are particularly low in France and Spain, amounting to only 7% and 8% respectively. However, Germany’s expenditure in clothing is relatively higher at 15%, contrasting with the lower spending observed in other nations.

Overall, food and drink and housing secured the highest expense, and clothing mostly remained the lowest for all the countries. Meanwhile, France, Germany and Türkiye spent their maximum percentage of household earning on housing, whereas Türkiye and Spain spent their highest on food and drink.


Almost all the five countries spent more than 50% of their household income on food and drink and housing areas. UK spent highest 64% in these sectors, followed by 56% spent by France and Türkiye each. All the five countries spent only around 20% of their household earnings on clothing and entertainment. Specially, clothing is the least spent area where France and Spain spent only 7% and 8%, respectively.


On the other hand, with the expense of 31%, 33%, and 37%, respectively, France, Germany and UK used their highest portion of household income in housing sector. However, Türkiye and Spain spent their maximum, 36% and 31%, respectively, in food and drink purposes. Though Turkish households spent 12% in clothing and UK households spent 11% for both clothing and entertainment, the other three countries spent their least on clothing sector.
