Sample Essay 1

Using mobile phones while driving is a hazardous practice as it distracts drivers from the road, increasing the likelihood of accidents. I strongly agree that mobile phone use by drivers should be banned everywhere. This essay will discuss how phone-related distractions lead to dangerous driving behaviour and why prohibiting their use can significantly improve road safety.

One key reason mobile phone use should be illegal while driving is the level of distraction it causes. Studies show that drivers who engage in activities such as texting or making calls are more likely to miss critical road signs, react slowly to sudden hazards, and cause accidents. For instance, a driver focused on a text message may fail to notice a pedestrian crossing or a car braking abruptly ahead. This dangerous lack of attention, comparable to the effects of drunk driving, puts everyone on the road at risk. Therefore, banning mobile phone use would help eliminate this major source of distraction, enhancing overall road safety.

Another compelling reason is that enforcing a strict law would create a safer driving culture. When laws against mobile phone use are implemented and enforced, they act as a deterrent, reducing the frequency of such behaviour. In countries where such regulations exist, there has been a noticeable decline in road accidents related to driver distraction. For example, Australia saw a significant reduction in phone-related crashes after introducing fines for drivers caught using their phones. This proves that legal measures, when strictly enforced, can alter driver behaviour, making roads safer for everyone.

In conclusion, mobile phone use while driving presents a significant risk as it leads to distraction and accidents. Implementing strict legal measures would not only deter drivers from using their phones but also contribute to a safer driving environment. To improve road safety, it is essential to make mobile phone use by drivers illegal worldwide.

Sample Essay 2

Using mobile phones while driving is often deemed dangerous due to the distractions it may cause. However, I completely disagree with the notion that mobile phone use should be banned for all drivers. Instead, I believe that with proper safety measures and technology, responsible phone use can be allowed without compromising road safety.

First and foremost, modern technology has introduced features that allow for the safe use of mobile phones while driving. Many vehicles now come equipped with hands-free devices, enabling drivers to make calls, send messages, or use navigation systems without taking their eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel. For example, Bluetooth-enabled cars and voice-activated systems allow drivers to communicate and interact with their devices using voice commands, minimizing the risk of distraction while maintaining full control of the vehicle. Outright banning mobile phone use would ignore these technological advances, which have been designed specifically to enhance both communication efficiency and road safety.

Furthermore, it is impractical to impose a universal ban on mobile phone use while driving due to the varying needs of different drivers. Many professionals, such as delivery workers, emergency personnel, and service providers, rely on mobile phones for real-time communication and navigation to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently. Prohibiting mobile phone use entirely would not only disrupt essential services and job performance but also unfairly penalize responsible drivers who use their phones in safe, controlled ways. A more balanced and effective approach would involve stricter regulations on distracted driving, focusing on penalizing those caught using phones unsafely rather than implementing a blanket ban that disregards responsible users and technological advancements.

In conclusion, while mobile phone use can be dangerous when done irresponsibly, technological advancements and proper regulations make it possible for phones to be used safely while driving. Instead of a total ban, targeted measures addressing unsafe behaviours would be far more effective in ensuring road safety.
