The bar chart illustrates the reduction in traffic accidents across five major roads in Bridgewater following the introduction of additional lanes. The data is presented in terms of accidents per kilometre.


Overall, the introduction of extra lanes has reduced the number of accidents on all five roads. While the M2 and M3 saw only a modest decrease in accidents, the M1, M4, and M5 experienced a more significant reduction, despite the M2 and M5 initially having the highest number of accidents.


Before the changes, the M2 and M5 recorded the highest accident rates, with 17 accidents per kilometre each. The M1 followed with 13 accidents per kilometre, while the M3 and M4 had 4 and 7 accidents per kilometre, respectively. After the extra lanes were added, the M5 experienced the most dramatic drop, with accidents decreasing by 10 to 7 per kilometre. The M1 also saw a significant reduction, falling to 5 accidents per kilometre. The M4’s accident rate halved, dropping to 2 per kilometre.


In contrast, the M2 and M3 showed minimal improvements. The M2’s accident rate decreased slightly to 15 accidents per kilometre, and the M3’s rate only fell to 2 accidents per kilometre.

Prior to the introduction of extra lanes, the M2 and M5 each recorded 17 accidents per kilometre, the highest among the five roads. The M1 followed with 13 accidents per kilometre, while the M4 had 7. Notably, the M3 experienced the fewest incidents, with just 4 accidents per kilometre.


Following the addition of extra lanes, traffic accidents on the M5 decreased by 10 incidents per kilometre, reaching 7 per kilometre, which represents the most substantial reduction among the five roads. Similarly, accidents on the M1 were reduced by more than half, dropping to 5 per kilometre. The M4 also experienced a significant decline, with accidents falling by 5 incidents to a new total of 2 per kilometre.
