IELTS Task 2 Band 9 Sample Essay

In the contemporary world, the pervasive influence of social media has resulted in a significant decline in interpersonal communication skills, particularly among children, leading to a negative impact on the quality of human relationships. In this essay, I will elucidate the extent of this impact, with relevant examples and reasoning to bolster my argument.

It is undeniable that the omnipresence of social media platforms has led to a marked decline in the amount of attention we allocate to face-to-face conversations. Our attention is often captured by the endless stream of entertainment and information available on our screens, leading us to participate in fewer significant conversations compared to previous generations. It is now commonplace to see individuals and groups of people spending more time engaging with their devices than with each other. This phenomenon has resulted in a dwindling of traditional social interactions that were once considered essential for the development of human relationships.

Moreover, the impact of social media on children's education cannot be overstated. The failure to instil effective communication skills at an early age can lead to significant difficulties in interpersonal relationships, which can persist into adulthood. Many students experience difficulty communicating with their peers or teachers in the classroom, as the skill of conversation is often neglected in formal education. The situation is compounded by parents who provide their children with unrestricted access to digital entertainment, often at the expense of spending quality time together or engaging in activities that foster effective communication.

To sum up, the irresistible attraction of social media through digital screens has resulted in a decrease in meaningful in-person interactions, thus having a deeply negative impact on the growth and progress of human relationships.

IELTS Task 2 Band 8.5 Sample Essay

In our present-day society, the all-encompassing dominion of social media has engendered a noteworthy deterioration in the aptitude for face-to-face communication, especially in younger generations, thereby generating an adverse effect on the calibre of human relationships. In this composition, I shall delve into the magnitude of this influence, bolstering my stance with cogent reasoning and illustrative instances.

Currently, there is a discernible decline in the amount of attention people are allocating to interpersonal communication. The allure of screens with their abundant entertainment content frequently ensnares our attention, leading to a decrease in the number of significant conversations we engage in compared to two decades ago. Today, sharing pictures or videos, liking and following content alone behind a smartphone has become more enjoyable than spending time with people, despite the traditional notion that having fun entails being surrounded by friends or family and participating in enjoyable activities.

Secondly, this virtual platform has significantly hampered the education of young children. Numerous students encounter difficulty communicating effectively with their peers or teachers in the classroom, owing to the fact that the skill of conversation needs to be instilled at a young age, but the necessary attention to this aspect is often overlooked. Moreover, parents are also complicit in exacerbating this issue, as they provide their children with unrestricted access to smartphones for digital entertainment, which can impede communication skills and cause other complications.

In conclusion, the pervasive impact of social media has caused a palpable deterioration in interpersonal communication abilities, particularly in children, ultimately resulting in adverse effects on the overall quality of human relationships.
